EU leaders agree on 12th sanction package that should hurt Russian trade by $5.3 billion

European Union leaders agreed on the 12th sanctions package against Russia, Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on Dec. 14.
“There is political agreement on the EU's 12th sanctions package on Russia, even though it will be formally adopted in the coming days,” RFE/RL correspondent Rikard Jozwiak reported.
The EU will also try to agree on another package of sanctions against Russia by the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, on Feb. 24, 2024.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and the European Commission presented proposals for the 12th sanctions package against the aggressor country Russia to the EU member states on Nov. 5.
The 12th sanctions package will impact Russian trade by about $5.3 billion, Bloomberg reported.
Leaders of the G7 countries approved on Dec. 6 the expansion of Russian sanctions and the introduction of a ban on the import of diamonds from Russia starting January 2024.
