Polish president warns against letting Russia win in Ukraine

In an interview with Ukrainian journalists
on June 23, Polish
President Andrzej Duda stated that a Russian victory in the war against
Ukraine must be avoided, equating such a win to empowering a "wild
animal" to attack other nations.
Duda expressed high admiration for the Ukrainian people and fighters.
“The heroism of the Ukrainian people, heroism of Ukraine’s defenders, deserves utmost respect and support,” the president said.
“It’s natural for me to support the people who are defending themselves against an invading army that is significantly larger and, by default, better armed and equipped."
Duda emphasized that justice in war sides with those defending their freedom, independence, and country. He compared Russia to a "wild animal."
“We cannot allow Russia to win because it will continue to launch attacks; it would only fuel its imperialism,” he said.
“It's akin to a wild animal that has eaten a human. Once such an animal has developed a taste for human flesh, it usually needs to be tracked and put down, as it is likely to attack again. The same applies to Russia. If Russia succeeds in eating even a part of Ukraine, it will target other territories that were under Soviet influence – once it regains composure.”
Duda argued that understanding this point is crucial for ending the war.
“While the West might not fully grasp this, we all know very well that this is an essential precondition for a just and successful conclusion to this war,” the president added.
“What would that look like? A restoration of the supremacy of international law at the very least. The principle of international law will be reaffirmed when Russia is expelled from all Ukrainian lands it has occupied, and when Ukraine regains complete control over its internationally recognized territories.”
The Polish president also addressed the issue of war reparations from Russia.
“Undoubtedly, Ukraine should be compensated for its losses,” he said on the matter.
“Fortunately, the international community agrees that Russia must pay these reparations. The sooner these funds, potentially derived from 'frozen Russian assets’ around the world, are made available for Ukraine's reconstruction and to compensate for its losses, the sooner justice will be restored and life can return to normal.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
