Poland not prepared to help patrol Ukrainian airspace without NATO decision

Poland will not shoot down Russian missiles over western Ukraine without a corresponding collective decision by all NATO allies, Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said in an interview with Polskie Radio on July 10.
Ukraine has long requested that Russian cruise missiles heading west be intercepted from NATO territory, according to the defense minister. However, Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Poland would not make any independent decisions on this matter, emphasizing that "this has to be a decision for all of NATO."
The minister added that there is currently no agreement within the Alliance on the issue. He pointed to Washington’s position, which has declared that it "does not want an escalation of the conflict."
"Of course, for missiles on the territory of the Republic of Poland, there are different procedures; in that case, it’s our decision," Kosiniak-Kamysz added.
Earlier, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby commented on Poland's potential role in shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine, stating that the United States does not want the war in Ukraine to escalate.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland would involve NATO allies to discuss the possible interception of Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine.
On July 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish PM Donald Tusk signed a security guarantee agreement in Warsaw. According to the document, Poland will consider the possibility of providing Ukraine with at least one additional squadron of MiG-29 fighter jets (at least 14 aircraft).
Additionally, the agreement includes a new provision for the interception of missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace that are launched westward, towards Poland.
