Poland announces plans to check all grain transit from Ukraine

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland Michał Kołodziejczak stated that all Ukrainian grain in transit through Poland should be checked, in a comment to Polish outlet PAP on Feb. 12.
“Today, at a meeting with various services, I will demand that all grain shipments that are exported and embargoed be checked in Poland,” the Polish politician said.
Kołodziejczak also added that the procedures for checking grain at the border are not effective enough, and he “personally has no confidence in any importer or exporter from abroad who submits their own tests.”
According to him, there are cases when grain gets to Germany and after testing turns out to be of poor quality, “in 99 percent of cases it returns to Poland as European grain.” He added that the same applies to grain testing in ports.
“It is not returning back to Ukraine, but to Poland,” the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland said.
On Feb. 8, 2024, it became known that Polish farmers would block the Zosin-Ustyluh checkpoint. The passage of trucks is also expected to slow down to 3-4 per hour at the Dołhobyczów-Uhrynów checkpoint.
On Feb. 10, Polish farmers unblocked the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint, where traffic had been suspended since Feb. 9.
On Feb. 11, it was reported online that Polish protesters near the Dorohusk checkpoint on the border with Ukraine damaged Ukrainian trucks and threw grain out of them. Videos were posted. According to the reports, there were three tons of grain spilled from each damaged truck.
The trucks from which some of the grain was dumped were sealed after customs procedures.
On Feb. 12, Polish farmers began protests at two more checkpoints on the border with Ukraine – Zosin and Dolhobyczów - and again blocked Shehyni.
