Pentagon and SpaceX move to block Russia’s access to Starlink

The Pentagon and SpaceX have identified ways to block Russian troops from using Starlink terminals in Ukraine, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plumb said on May 9.
As reported by Bloomberg, Plumb said that the United States, Ukraine, and SpaceX (which operates Starlink) worked together to “counter Russian illicit use of Starlink terminals.”
“At this time, we have successfully countered Russian use, but I am certain Russia will continue to try and find ways to exploit Starlink and other commercial communications systems,” the official said.
Plumb added that Moscow will undoubtedly find new ways to use the terminals in the future, requiring more work to put a stop to that.
"While it will continue to be a problem, think we’ve wrapped our heads around it and found good solutions with both Starlink and Ukraine," he added.
Plumb did not specify the methods that were used to prevent Russian access to Starlink.
Senator Elizabeth Warren previously urged the Department of Defense and Starlink to limit Russia’s access to the service, calling it a "serious threat to national security" for the United States and its allies.
