Ukraine to honor Azov Brigade soldiers killed in Olenivka attack on July 28-29

The Ukrainian Parliament has proposed establishing July 28 and 29 as Days of Mourning and Commemoration for the soldiers of the 12th Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, killed in a Russian terrorist attack at a prison in Olenivka, with draft resolution No. 11452 registered on July 29.
This proposal is led by Maria Mezentseva-Fedorenko (Servant of the People party), Solomiia Bobrovska (Holos party), Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity party), Serhii Sobolev (Batkivshchyna party), and Larysa Bilozir (Dovira parliamentary group).
The text of the resolution is not yet available on the Parliament's website.
Russian terrorist attack in Olenivka
Russia struck the Olenivka prison colony to accuse Ukraine of war crimes and cover up the torture and executions of POWs carried out by the occupation authorities and command in temporarily occupied Donetsk Oblast, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported on July 29, 2022.
The colony held 193 prisoners, including Mariupol defenders, notably fighters from the Azov regiment.
Russian propaganda claimed the POWs were killed by a HIMARS missile strike.
International experts believe the explosion was caused by a thermobaric weapon, according to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin.
The explosion killed over 50 people and injured at least 140 others, though exact numbers remain unknown.
The Russians did not allow international organizations to inspect the site of the tragedy.
