Oil products leak into Dnipro River after Russian attack on HPP dam
Due to the March 22 Russian missile strike on the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia, oil products are leaking into the Dnipro River, according to Ukraine’s Environmental Service.
As the Telegram message explains, environmental inspectors recorded soil contamination and took water samples on site.
The Prosecutor General's Office earlier said that the Russian military had hit the Dnipro HPP with eight missiles, putting the power plant out of commission.
Ukrainian authorities assure that despite the damage to the electricity-producing facilities, there is no threat of a dam breach.
Early in the morning on March 22, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with a mixture of cruise and ballistic missiles, preceded by a wave of kamikaze drones. A total of 151 drones and missiles were involved in the attack, with Ukraine’s air defenses intercepting 92 of them, including 55 UAVs and 37 missiles.
