Gym in Kyiv's downtown hit by Russian missile - Emergency Service scrambles for survivors
"There may be people trapped under the rubble" of the collapsed gym building hit by Russian missile debris in Kyiv’s downtown Pecherskyi district, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported on Telegram on March 25.
"Emergency rescue operations are underway," the statement said.
A Red Cross aid center has been set up in a nearby school.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, an area of approximately 100 square meters of a three-story non-residential building in the capital's Pechersk district was damaged in the morning missile attack. There were no reports of a fire at the site.
Five people, including a 16-year-old girl, were injured in the attack, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported.
Powerful explosions were heard in the capital after Russia launched ballistic missiles toward Kyiv on March 25.
Debris from other downed Russian missiles has been reported in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi, Dniprovskyi, Solomyanskyi, and Darnytskyi districts, Klitschko reported.
No casualties have been reported, though a private house was damaged in Darnytskyi district.
A multi-story building in the Solomyansky district was damaged. A missile fragment also hit a private home in the Osokorky neighborhood.
"Preliminary information indicates that debris from a Russian missile attack on Kyiv struck and damaged a residential building in the Pechersk district," the administration reported.
