NATO
is developing no plans for troop deployment to Ukraine, Secretary-General Jens
Stoltenberg said at a press briefing on April 4.
The official added that Kyiv never requested direct military involvement from the alliance or its members.
“We do not have any plans to deploy NATO troops to Ukraine,” said Stoltenberg.
“There has been no such request.”
He reiterated that Ukraine requests security assistance through shipments of weapons and ammunition—something which NATO allies will continue to provide.
“But this does not mean we will be doing anything else; we are helping them to defend themselves," Stoltenberg concluded.
In recent months, French President Emmanuel Macron repeatedly said that Paris is considering sending a contingent of French troops to Ukraine if the situation on the battlefield deteriorates further. According to Macron, France is determined to prevent a Russian victory in Ukraine.
