No plans to give Ukraine Taurus long-range missiles – Germany
Despite the UK and France having recently
made corresponding
decisions, Germany has no plans to transfer long-range missiles to Ukraine,
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on July 11, as reported by German
newspaper Handelsblatt.
“If individual partners choose to do so (transfer long-range missiles), it is their sovereign decision,” Pistorius said at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
“We have no intention of changing our position.”
Furthermore, the minister added that he sees no reason to criticize Germany, as it is the second most important ally of Ukraine.
"Without us, Ukraine's air defense would be unthinkable," he said.
Germany currently possesses Taurus long-range missiles capable of striking targets up to 500 kilometers away.
Previously, both London and Paris announced the transfer of long-range cruise missiles Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG, with the range of 250 kilometers, to Ukraine.
