No decision yet on supplying ATACMS to Ukraine – CJCS Milley
While still considering the move,
Washington has not yet decided to transfer ATACMS long-range missiles to
Ukraine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen.
Mark Milley, said at a press briefing on June 30.
“ATACMS, F-16s or anything else... it’s a constant review process,” Voice of America correspondent Jeff Seldin quotes Milley in a Twitter post.
“These things are on the table. There's no decision at this point.”
Commenting on Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive, Milley said the operation going slower than many experts anticipated is “part of the nature of war.”
“War on paper and real war are different; that it's going slower than people predicted doesn't surprise me at all,” said Milley, adding that a slow and deliberate advance by Ukrainian forces is underway.
“Ukraine is fighting for its life...; sure, it goes a little slow but that is part of the nature of war.”
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States is close to approving the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. Officials have stated that the matter is under consideration at the highest level.
Later on, Pentagon spokesperson Patrick Ryder stated that the decision to provide ATACMS missiles to Ukraine has not been made and he is "certainly not aware of any impending decisions regarding ATACMS."
