Russian offensive nearing exhaustion: Budanov expects conclusion in early spring

The war’s conclusion will bring about the “restoration of justice,” Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Ukrainian military’s Main Intelligence Directorate, stated in a recent interview with CNN on Jan. 31.
He promised that the next six months will be “interesting.” He noted that during this period, the Russian offensive on the front is expected to conclude.
Budanov estimates that over half a million Russian troops are present in the occupied territories of Ukraine. However, he does not see significant potential for advancement on the front lines in the short term.
The HUR chief emphasized that the war can only end in one way: “Establishing justice – that’s how it will end, with the return of what was lost.”
Previously, Budanov indicated that the ongoing Russian offensive, lasting two and a half months, will be fully exhausted in early spring. He also warned of potential escalating attacks on critical infrastructure in various cities of Russia and noted that Russian citizens now witness the “real picture” of burning oil depots and ruined buildings on factories and plants.
The U.S.-based think tank Institute for Studies of War (ISW) reported Russian advancements along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on Jan. 21, capturing Krokhmalne in Kharkiv Oblast, later confirmed by Volodymyr Fitio.
Despite the Russian claim of seizing Tabaivka in Kharkiv Oblast on Jan. 28, Fitio stated on Jan. 29 that the assertions did not correspond to reality.
