NACP exposes Russia's use of foreign components in Iskander-K missile strike on Chernihiv
The Ukrainian National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) updated the world's first open database of foreign components in weapons, announcing the inclusion of details about the Iskander-K ballistic cruise missile in a press release on Jan. 19.
Russia deployed this missile in an attack on Chernihiv’s city center on Aug. 19, 2023.
The database now incorporates four previously unreported components from the SN-99 global navigation satellite system used in the Iskander missile.
Experts determined that this particular missile's manufacturing date was no earlier than March 2023, indicating that these components likely reached Russia after the commencement of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the NACP said.
The agency stressed the importance of preventing foreign technologies and components from being integrated into weaponry used by aggressors causing harm to civilians.
Russia struck Chernihiv with ballistic missiles on Aug. 19, 2023, killing seven people, including a six-year-old girl, and injuring 156, with over 40 requiring hospitalization.
The missile strike hit near the city’s drama theater, where a drone manufacturers' exhibition was underway, said Yurii Belousov, a war crimes investigator.
Ongoing investigations are exploring all circumstances related to the exhibition's organization, including the potential involvement of Russian agents in guiding the strike on Ukrainian territory.
