Montenegro parliament approves new government with pro-Russian members
Montenegro's Parliament approved the country's new government, including pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties New Serbian Democracy, Democratic People's Party, and the pro-Western Bosniak Party, Balkan Observer reported on July 23.
The coalition retains members from the Serbian People's Party (SNP), representatives from Albanian parties, the centrist Democrats, and the Europe Now Movement (PES), led by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
Pro-Russian forces have secured two vice-presidential and three ministerial positions, while the Bosniak Party has been allotted one vice-presidential and five ministerial positions.
50 deputies supported Spajić's proposal for government restructuring.
Most deputies from opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), the Civic Movement URA (GP URA), the Social Democrats (SD), and the Croatian Civic Initiative (HGI), abstained from the vote.
The government's restructuring aims to "improve the citizens' well-being, ensure the law supremacy, and accelerate Montenegro's path to the EU," Prime Minister Spajić said.
"This government and parliamentary majority can lead Montenegro into the EU, which is why we are part of this government," Bosniak Party leader Ervin Ibrahimović said.
DPS deputy Andrija Nikolić pointed out the absence of Montenegrin representatives in the government, asserting that "the new government is controlled from Belgrade and Moscow," with Montenegro's leading pro-Russian politician, Andrija Mandić, as the "boss and head."
The new government consists of the Prime Minister, 24 ministers, and seven vice-premiers, five of whom hold only vice-presidential positions, while two combine the roles of vice-president and minister.
