Russian Forces destroy children's rowing club in Odesa Oblast — photo
The Russian military has destroyed a rowing club in Tairove, Odesa Oblast, according to a post on the club’s Instagram on Dec. 19.
The club is determined to rebuild the base.
"This is what the ‘Russian world’ is like — terrible, aggressive, and indifferent to the sports dreams of our children,” the club said.
“On the night of Dec. 17, Russian troops again attacked civilian infrastructure — this time flames broke out at the Chornomorets children's rowing club. As a result, athletes lost not only boats but also a roof over their heads.”
“The children who had been training there in the afternoon of Dec. 16 were already dismantling the remains of the piles of burnt boats and helping with the restoration the very next morning.”
“They worked alongside their parents, coaches, and fellow athletes. Who are you [Russians] even trying to defeat?”
“Remember — you destroyed our boats, but you will never destroy the most valuable thing — our sports plans, dreams, and faith in our victory.”
“Disappointment ignited our hearts, but today we are uniting to restore what was lost. We are confident that our sports community stands together, and we will be able to restore the rowing base."
The World Rowing Federation (FISA) allowed Russians to compete as neutral athletes in individual disciplines this summer.
