Lithuanian Seimas approves law amendments increasing drones supply to Ukraine

The Lithuanian Parliament has approved amendments to the state procurement law, allowing the purchase and transfer of drones with Chinese-made components to Ukraine, Lrytas.lt reported on March 26.
Organizations crucial for security are currently unable to procure goods from manufacturers or controlling entities registered in China, as they are considered unreliable, even if these goods are solely used for testing or provided as support to foreign countries.
After discussion, the bill received support from 75 parliamentarians, with two abstentions, and no votes against it.
After minor amendments, Parliament Economic Committee unanimously approved the bill, as reported by the committee’s chairman, Kazis Starkavičius, who presented the conclusion.
Organizations now will be able to provide the drones purchased with Chinese components to support Ukraine.
Lithuania’s aid to Ukraine
The Lithuanian government allocated 35 million euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine as part of the Czech initiative on March 20.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated on March 13 that Western countries should discuss the idea of sending military personnel to Ukraine and stop drawing “red lines” regarding aid to Kyiv.
Lithuania delivered another batch of 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine as military aid for the country’s defense forces on March 7.
