Lithuania extends residency permits for Ukrainian refugees until March 2025

Lithuania announced an extension of humanitarian protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 2025, head of Lithuanian migration department Evelina Gudzinskaite said on Dec. 4.
“A significant number of Ukrainians were granted temporary protection until March 4, 2024,” said Gudzinskaite.
“As the validity of these permits is expiring, it is time to consider their renewal. The EU has decided to extend temporary protection until March 2025. This means that all Ukrainians with temporary protection can extend their residency permits for another year.”
Lithuania has issued 46,000 digital residence permits based on temporary protection since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainians continue to arrive, with 20-50 new refugees registering in Lithuania daily.
Over 85,000 Ukrainians currently reside in Lithuania, making it the largest foreign community in the country.
The majority of refugees “are not inclined to adapt to life in the country” and see their future with Ukraine.
“We will announce the start of an online renewal process for these permits next week, and appointments can be scheduled with the Migration Department.”
Latvia approved further support for Ukrainian refugees and the transfer of confiscated vehicles to Ukraine on Nov. 24. Germany announced a similar decision on the same day.
Ukrainian refugees in Germany are set to pursue job opportunities within major corporations.
The German government’s new approach is slated for implementation in the near future and will encompass around 200,000 Ukrainians who have successfully completed the integration course.
