Kyiv Oblast police debunk claims of mobilization checks on men at checkpoints

Police officers at checkpoints in Kyiv Oblast are purposefully avoiding making checks on men for potential mobilization, the oblast’s police head, Anatolii Shchadylo, said on Facebook on Jan. 2.
Shchadylo refuted claims of summonses being distributed at checkpoints, calling the information false.
Law enforcement officers at checkpoints are strictly performing "police functions," following Resolution No. 1455 of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers of Dec. 29, 2021, he said.
"They provide security measures by strengthening control over the movement of citizens, vehicles, cargo, etc.," Shchadylo said.
Measures related to mobilization, including pre-trial investigations and administrative detentions, are carried out by the police based on Resolution No. 1487 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Dec. 30, 2022, he said.
"And only upon the appeals of the regional territorial recruitment centers (TRCs)," Shchadylo said.
Kyiv Oblast TRCs earlier reported that the police and the commandant's office were tasked with searching for draft evaders at checkpoints. They claim to cooperate with the police and act exclusively within the framework of the current legislation.
Counter-sabotage and security measures are being intensified in Kyiv Oblast from Dec. 28 to Jan. 6, with more checkpoints being deployed during this period, Kyiv Regional Governor Ruslan Kravchenko reported on Telegram on Dec. 28.
