Ukraine denies Russia’s ‘dirty bomb’ claims
The Ukrainian government has denied Russian propaganda claims about purported Ukrainian plans to use "dirty bombs" or attack nuclear power plants in Russian territory, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Aug. 16.
“We are witnessing yet another spike in crazy Russian propaganda about alleged Ukrainian plans to use 'dirty bombs' or attack nuclear power plants,” the message quotes ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
“We officially deny these false reports. Ukraine has neither the intention nor the capacity to carry out any such actions. Russia must stop spreading dangerous lies.”
Tykhyi reiterated that Ukraine has always been and continues to be a committed signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, does not possess any "dirty bombs," and has no plans to acquire them.
"When Russia first spread this nonsense in 2022, we invited an IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] mission, which completely debunked this lie; nothing has changed since then," he added.
Previously, pro-Kremlin Russian media published claims about alleged Ukrainian plans to "use a dirty bomb" or "strike storage sites of spent nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants."
