Kherson governor warns of potential mass attacks amid Airborne Forces Day celebrated in Russia

The Russian forces may conduct extensive attacks on Kherson Oblast settlements, including Kherson itself, on August 2, Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.
(Airborne Forces Day, also known as Paratroopers' Day is a professional military holiday observed in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, celebrated on August 2 annually.)
His statement echoes Russian habit to tie their attacks on Ukraine to some significant dates.
“Russians have an obsession with their symbolism.”
“They have another so-called holiday — what they call Airborne Forces Day,” Prokudin said, referring to the notorious celebrations marked by rowdy behavior and excessive drinking.
Prokudin urged residents to stay indoors if possible, avoid unnecessary travel, and avoid crowded places.
“In case of shelling, move to the nearest shelter or street-level cover. Take care of yourselves,” he added.
The Russian troops attacked 19 settlements in Kherson and its Oblast over the past day, Prokudin reported on August 1.
The Russian attack caused one fatality and ten injuries.
Residential areas were hit, including an apartment building and 27 private homes. An office building, a utility structure, and a vehicle were also damaged.
The Russians deployed all three of their missile-carrying submarines to the Black Sea, suggesting preparations for a new combined assault, Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk reported on July 30.
