Kharkiv declares Day of Mourning for hypermarket attack victims

The city of Kharkiv will observe May 27 as a Day of Mourning in remembrance of the victims of the recent attack on the Epicenter hypermarket, Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced.
A city decree mandates that the national flag, adorned with a black ribbon, be flown at half-mast on local government buildings, enterprises, and organizations.
Additionally, the city has prohibited the playing of entertainment music in markets, shops, and eateries on the day of mourning.
The attack occurred at approximately 4:02 p.m. on May 25, initially striking a residential district. Mayor Terekhov later confirmed that Russian forces had targeted the Epicenter mall with two guided aerial bombs, sparking a massive fire that engulfed over 10,000 square meters.
Later that evening, around 7:00 p.m., Russian military forces launched another strike in central Kharkiv.
Oleksandr Filchakov, Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor, reported that an S-300 missile struck near an office center in the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district.
Rescue teams continue to clear debris from the demolished hypermarket. As of the evening of May 26, the casualty toll stood at 14 dead and 44 injured, with 11 individuals, including a 12-year-old girl and her mother, formally identified by law enforcement. Seven others remain missing, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
