IOC accuses Putin of exploiting 17-year-old figure skater
Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was used for political purposes, said the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Thomas Bach, American news agency AP reported on March 7.
The 17-year-old was exploited for political gain when photographed alongside Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at the Future Games ceremony in Kazan on Feb. 21, Bach said.
“By having to stand next to the president, Putin, at the opening ceremony of the so-called Future Games,” he said.
“In this way showing the disrespect for all the worldwide anti-doping rules.”
Valieva has been disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. She will participate in an ice show in China.
