Iran vows military response to Israel for consulate bombing
The CIA has issued a warning that Iran might initiate a military operation against Israel within the next 48 hours, Vox News reported on April 3.
This comes in the wake of an airstrike that demolished the Iranian consulate in Syria, resulting in the death of several high-ranking Iranian officials and generals, escalating regional tensions.
The American intelligence agency highlighted that top Iranian officials have publicly expressed that Iran is justified in retaliating against Israel for the consulate strike. These statements have been widely reported by Middle Eastern media sources.
Iranian officials have repeated threats against Israel after the air strike on the consulate in Syria, Politico reported earlier with reference to a statement made on Iranian state television.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi vowed that the assault "will not remain unanswered," signaling a potential escalation.
Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has also been vocal, asserting on television and social media that Israel "will face consequences." Khamenei stated, "With God’s help, we will ensure the Zionists regret their aggressive act against the Iranian consulate in Damascus."
The attack, which took place on April 1, resulted in the deaths of seven Iranian officials, as reported by Reuters and Iranian state media. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a high-ranking officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was among those killed.
While Syrian and Iranian outlets have pointed fingers at Israel for the airstrike, Israel has yet to make an official statement regarding the incident.
Further intensifying the situation, Al Mayadeen, a Lebanese news channel, reported that Tehran is planning a coordinated assault involving drones and missiles targeting vital locations in Israel, signaling a significant uptick in the already strained relations between the two nations.
