Hungary to block further EU aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, minister says

Hungary
will block EUR 500 million ($542 million) in EU financial assistance to Ukraine
and will not support further sanctions against Russia, Foreign Minister Peter
Szijjarto said on May 17, as reported by Bloomberg.
According to Szijjarto, Hungary’s obstructionist stance is dictated by Ukraine’s “increasingly belligerent” behavior.
"It is fair to say that we have had enough," said Szijjarto.
The minister gave the following reasons for the decision:
· The inclusion of OTP Bank, Hungary's largest financial institution, in Ukraine's list of international sponsors of war;
· Alleged restrictions on the rights of ethnic Hungarians to receive education in their native language in Ukraine;
· The recent Washington Post article about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly floating the idea of blowing up the Druzhba oil pipeline, which Hungary uses to receive Russian oil.
According to Bloomberg, Szijjarto's statement led to a 1% drop of the Hungarian forint against the U.S. dollar and the euro.
