Greece denies plans to give Ukraine Patriot battery
The Greek government is not considering supplying Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems, Reuters reported on May 5, citing an unnamed Greek official.
The source unequivocally refuted reports that the United States and Greece were considering delivering new Patriot systems to Kyiv.
“There is no question of supplying Ukraine with Patriot systems from Greece,” the official said.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Western nations were negotiating to provide Ukraine with more Patriots. On May 4, The New York Times wrote that Ukraine would receive Patriot systems from Israel and that Kyiv’s western allies were exploring the possibility of sending another system from either Germany or Greece.
Sources familiar with the matter declined to comment on U.S. President Donald Trump’s view on the decision to send more Patriot systems or when the decision was made—during Joe Biden’s term or after Trump’s return to the White House.
According to The New York Times, Ukraine currently has eight Patriot systems, though only six are operational because two remain offline for repairs.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to purchase 10 Patriot systems from the United States for $15 billion.
