France backs US proposal to use frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine — report

The French government has supported the U.S. proposal to use the revenue from frozen Russian assets to benefit Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on May 22.
“We are open to the idea of mobilizing the income of these assets as best as possible and as much in advance as possible within international law,” said French Minister Bruno Le Maire.
The report indicates that France’s support for the U.S. proposal has increased the likelihood of reaching an agreement this week during the meeting of G7 finance ministers.
Previously, it was reported that the German government also expressed its readiness to back the U.S. plan to use proceeds from $50 billion in frozen Russian assets currently held in Europe.
With both Germany and France supporting the plan, the chances of its full approval during the G7 leaders' summit from June 13 to 15 have increased, according to the report.
