Five people were killed and 18 injured in a
Russian
missile strike on a residential building in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast,
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said in a Telegram post on Aug. 7.
Col. Andriy Omelchenko, regional head of the State Emergency Service, was among the victims, according to the message.
"Five dead and 18 injured – the consequences of two attacks on a residential building in Pokrovsk," said Klymenko.
"During the second strike, the deputy head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in Donetsk Oblast was killed. Four more rescuers, eight police officers, and three civilians were injured. Our heroes were the first to arrive at the scene of the shelling to help people."
Search and rescue operations continue on site.
