Ukraine’s new Ambassador to UK calls for total societal effort in war preparedness
Preparation for war should involve all aspects of state
activity, said former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and
newly appointed Ambassador to the UK Valerii Zaluzhnyi at the RUSI Land Warfare
Conference 2024 in London, according to his July 22 Telegram post.
“Society must agree to temporarily give up a number of
freedoms for the sake of survival,” he said.
“Unfortunately, modern wars are total. They require the
efforts not only of the army, but of the whole society. Politicians can and
should mobilize society. To do so, they use military and other state resources
in a comprehensive way. These resources include the economy, finance, the
population, and allies. Such actions will, of course, influence the political
processes in the country.
According to Zaluzhnyi, society’s readiness for war “should
be based on honest and transparent communication between the government and the
people (...) War is the maximum concentration of forces for survival. And only
for this purpose”.
On the same day, Zaluzhnyi held his first diplomaticmeeting with IMO Secretary General
Arsenio Dominguez to discuss the grain corridor security.
Zaluzhnyi’s appointment as Ukraine’s ambassador to UK
Zelenskyy approved Zaluzhnyi’s candidacy for the post of
Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom on March 7. The president said that
the general had asked for this position himself.
Ukrainian newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, citing sources on
March 9 reported that Zaluzhnyi passed a military qualification examination in
the winter and was found unfit for military service, and in February he wrote a letter of resignation from military service.
Zelenskyy issued a decree appointing Zaluzhnyi as Ukraine’s
ambassador to the United Kingdom on May 9.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
