EU’s Borrell visits Kyiv amid Ukraine crisis, pledges support
Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, arrived in Kyiv, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko from the European Solidarity party said on Telegram on Feb. 6.
“I had the opportunity to talk to him on the train,” Honcharenko said.
“He is a true friend of Ukraine.”
Riga Mayor Vilnis Ķirsis and his deputy Linda Ozola arrived in Kyiv on a visit as well, he said.
This is Borrell’s fourth visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.
The European Union may approve the military aid fund for Ukraine within the framework of the European Peace Fund in the coming days, said Borrell earlier.
Ukraine’s victory is critical for peace and stability in Europe, so Ukraine needs to receive EU aid as soon as possible, he said
The Council of the European Union has reached a preliminary agreement to fund Ukraine aid with profits from frozen Russian assets, the Belgian delegation at the Council announced via Twitter on Jan. 29.
Borrell announced on Jan. 31 that in 2024, the EU countries would provide Ukraine with EUR 21 billion ($22.5 billion) in military aid.
Russia will be held responsible for its war crimes against Ukraine, Borrell said on X (Twitter) on Jan. 2.
