Ukraine's Defense Forces struck several Russian air defense system positions on Aug. 8 and 9, including S-400 Triumf, Tor, and Pantsir-S1 systems, according to Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces.
According to Brovdi, overnight into Aug. 9, Ukrainian forces struck an S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system in Gelendzhik, in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. That system had launched six missiles at Ukraine on Aug. 8 between 9:25 a.m. and 12:51 p.m.
According to Brovdi, Ukrainian forces also struck:
- A Tor air defense system in Pudovy, Rostov Oblast, Russia
- A Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft system in Yeysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia
- A Podlyot-K1 radar system in Golovatovka, Rostov Oblast, Russia
- A Kasta 2E2 radar system in Latonovo, Rostov Oblast, Russia
Brovdi also reported strikes on one oil tanker and two dry cargo vessels in the Black Sea.
On Aug. 8, powerful explosions were reported in Gelendzhik, followed by a fire. The monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported that the Russian city was under attack by drones belonging to Ukraine's Defense Forces.
Authorities in Krasnodar Krai declared a drone threat and closed beaches at the Gelendzhik resort, as well as in the Kabardinka and Divnomorskoye rural districts.
On Aug. 3, authorities in Krasnodar Krai reported that seven people were killed on a beach in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, part of the resort city of Gelendzhik, after debris from a downed drone fell on the beach during a Russian air defense response.
