20 dead, nearly 300 injured in devastating explosion at a gas warehouse in Nagorno-Karabakh

At least 20 are dead and another 290 injured after an explosion at a gasoline warehouse near Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh on Sept. 25, reported NEWS.am, referencing the Health Ministry’s press service in unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh.
Most of the victims are in the Nagorno-Karabakh medical center. Seven people could not be saved.
Dozens of victims are in critical condition. 13 bodies have not yet been identified and are with the Forensic Medical Examination Bureau. Many who were burned are still missing.
A powerful explosion occurred at a gasoline warehouse near the Stepankert — Askeran highway in the ethnic Armenian exclave on Sept. 25.
More than 200 people are in serious or critical condition, said Nagorno-Karabakh human rights commissioner, Geham Stepanyan.
The warehouse was being used to distribute gasoline to those leaving Nagorno-Karabakh for Armenia, said MP of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Metaxe Hakobyan.
Despite backing Armenia for decades in its dispute with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia has now officially recognized the breakaway region as Azerbaijani territory, according to recent reports in Russian state media.
Armenia, which exercised a considerable degree of control over Nagorno-Karabakh (known as the Republic of Artsakh in Armenia), has accused Azerbaijan of armed aggression and launching an ethnic cleansing campaign.
Protestors have taken to the streets in Yerevan, calling on the authorities to intervene in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Armenian authorities, more than 30 people were killed and more than 200 were injured because of shelling in the region.
