Moscow has acknowledged that at least one span
of the Crimean
Bridge is beyond repair and that full traffic across it cannot be restored
until November, according to a statement Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat
Khusnullin made on July 17.
Russian propagandists are sharing statements from Khusnullin during a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He claimed the plan is to open one side of the Crimean Bridge for two-way traffic by Sept. 15 and the other side – in November.
According to Khusnullin, none of the bridge supports were damaged and remain in “normal condition.” He also announced that there is supposedly "minor damage" to one of the railway tracks.
Russian state-run RIA Novosti news agency also quotes Khusnullin as saying that one section of the bridge towards Kerch will have to be dismantled.
On the morning of July 17, Sergey Aksyonov, the Kremlin-appointed “head” of Russia-occupied Crimea, declared an “extraordinary event” near the 145th pylon of the Crimean Bridge.
Russian media outlets have reported explosions and potential damage to the bridge’s pillars and one of its sections. The Russian Ministry of Transport later claimed that the roadway had been affected.
Automobile and railway traffic has been suspended, resulting in significant congestion. Occupying forces are encouraging Russians to travel through temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The SBU and the Ukrainian Navy reportedly played a role in the nighttime explosion of the Crimean Bridge, according to an anonymous law enforcement source.
The source revealed that the attack on the bridge utilized naval drones.
