Court extends pretrial detention for former Motor Sich head Boguslayev
The Solomianskyi District Court in Kyiv has extended the pretrial detention of former Motor Sich president Vyacheslav Boguslayev for another two months, his lawyer Ruslan Volynets told public broadcaster Suspilne on Feb. 19.
Volynets said that Boguslayev, accused of stalling the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, would be held without bail through April 18. He noted that while this hearing was intended to begin examining the merits of the case, there wasn't enough time to proceed.
Additionally, Boguslayev's health is deteriorating, his lawyer said.
“Of course, we will appeal; his health is rapidly getting worse, dynamically so,” said Volynets.
“And it's not just us saying this; the medical staff of the detention center is issuing documents. People are starting to take notice, but they're afraid to assume responsibility. It seems they will wait until it's too late, and then they will change their minds.”
Having led Ukraine’s defense contractor Motor Sich for years, Boguslayev were detained by the SBU security service in October 2022.
The investigation revealed that they had set up illegal channels to supply wholesale batches of Ukrainian-made aircraft engines and spare parts to Russia, conspiring with representatives of the Russian state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec.
In April 2022, Boguslayev instructed his subordinates to dismantle the aircraft into parts to deliberately block their delivery to Ukrainian intelligence services.
