Canadian company offers Germany help with armored vehicles for Kyiv — report
Following recent media reports that Germany is behind schedule on delivering MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) armored vehicles to Ukraine, Canadian APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) manufacturer Roshel has offered a solution to the German government, German newspaper Bild wrote on April 23.
Company CEO Roman Shimonov has reached out to the newspaper. He offered to sell Roshel’s version of MRAP vehicles to Berlin at "competitive prices," claiming they are "a much better alternative" to the equipment Germany initially planned to deliver to Ukraine.
A letter from Roshel states that the company can deliver 100 heavy MRAP vehicles to Ukraine promptly. Furthermore, their price would be significantly lower than the existing FFG (German MRAP manufacturer) contract.
“Roshel promises a price below EUR 375,000 per vehicle, whereas the German company FFG quotes an estimated price of 787,500 euros,” the report says.
“Shimonov asserts that Roshel currently produces 140 vehicles per month, meaning all 400 APCs promised by Germany could be delivered this year.”
Journalists also note that Roshel has already supplied Ukraine with over a thousand APCs and MRAPs.
Bild reports that the proposal has been forwarded to the German Defense Ministry, which has yet to comment on the situation.
"Ukraine needs swift and comprehensive support; we must explore all possible options," Sebastian Schaefer, a member of the Bundestag Budget Committee, told Bild.
On April 22, Bild reported that Germany was forced to delay the delivery of 400 MRAP vehicles to Ukraine.
