Bus carrying children to Bulgaria crashes in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, injuring eight
A bus carrying children on vacation to Bulgaria was involved in an accident in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, injuring eight people, the Main Department of the National Police in the region reported on Aug. 6.
A bus accident occurred on Aug. 5, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on the Zhytomyr-Chernivtsi highway in the village of Zhvanets.
A 61-year-old resident of Chernivtsi Oblast was transporting children from Kyiv to Bulgaria for vacation, according to the police. Preliminary data indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road, and subsequently collided with the wall of a non-residential building.
At the time of the accident, there were 31 children and accompanying adults on the bus.
A 62-year-old man and seven children, aged 8 to 15, were injured in the accident and hospitalized by paramedics.
Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 (violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles, which caused bodily harm to a victim) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The bus has been moved to the impound lot, and the investigation is ongoing.
