Argentina may join coalition to rescue abducted Ukrainian children — President’s Office

The Argentine government is considering joining the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in the near future, the Ukrainian President's Office reported on May 25.
Argentinian lawmakers have submitted a draft declaration on joining the coalition to the country's highest legislative body.
"The voice of Argentina should be confident in the coalition of countries because you have your own traumatic memories and destroyed children's lives," said Daria Herasymchuk, Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Argentina.
"By joining our efforts to rescue abducted Ukrainian children in line with the 4th point of the Peace Formula proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the countries of the world can create a new, effective system of child protection globally."
"Canada and Ukraine would create a coalition to bring home abducted Ukrainian children," Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly announced on Feb. 2.
On March 8, the United States officially joined the coalition.
So far, 36 countries have joined the initiative.
Abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia
In 2023, the European Parliament reported that the number of Ukrainian children illegally abducted to Russia could reach 300,000. MEPs believe that Russians began taking Ukrainian children in 2014 when they occupied Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said during the fourth meeting of the Peace Formula advisers in Davos on Jan. 14 that Ukraine had returned 517 illegally abducted children and 2,828 adults from Russia, including only 150 civilians.
"No one can say for sure how many Ukrainians, including children, adult civilians, and military personnel, are in Russian captivity," President Zelenskyy said on Feb. 26.
At least 19,546 children have been abducted or forcibly displaced by Russia, and 2,015 children are reported missing, according to the Ukrainian state platform Children of War, as of May 2024.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
