US gives Ukraine $325 million in air defense, ammunition, and armored vehicles, including Bradleys & Strykers
The U.S.State Department announced a $325 million aid package that focuses on armored vehicles, air defense, and ammunition, Voice of America journalist Carla Babb reported on Twitter on June 13.
The aid package includes critically needed “air defense capabilities,” shells for the HIMARS MLRS, artillery shells, anti-tank weapons, armored vehicles, and more, said U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The U.S. Ministry of Defense clarified that the package includes:
· Projectiles for the NASAMS air defense system and HIMARS anti-aircraft missile system
· Stinger air defense system
· 15 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles
· 10 Stryker armored personnel carriers
· ATGM Javelin
· AT-4 anti-tank complexes
· 155-mm and 105-mm shells
· TOW missiles
· Ammunition for small arms and grenades (over 22 million)
· Explosive munitions
· Spare parts, means for secure communication, etc.
This is the 40th package of military aid to Ukraine since August 2021.
The equipment in the aid package is specifically designed to replace equipment damaged in Ukraine’s summer counteroffensive, VOA reported earlier, citing sources in the Pentagon.
Ukraine has allegedly lost 16 Bradley fighting vehicles in the early days of the counteroffensive, CNN reported, citing OSINT analysts. Officially, Ukraine does not comment on the losses.
Against the backdrop of Russian airstrikes, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said on June 9 that “military equipment that cannot be destroyed has not yet been created” and the inevitable losses are people.
She said on June 12 that Ukrainian defenders had advanced 6.5 km during the offensive over the last week and had liberated seven settlements.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces are moving forward and increasing control in the Bakhmut area, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
