Miracle comeback win keeps chances of promotion alive for Ukraine’s women hockey team at worlds

In what is likely the most incredible win in Ukrainian women’s hockey history, Ukraine erased a three-goal cushion in the final four minutes to top Serbia in overtime and keep the team’s chances for promotion alive.
Down 4-1 with less than four minutes to go in the game, Ukraine’s Valeria Manchak-Jensen put the team on her shoulders. The team’s top scorer completed her hat trick to bring the team within one with 2:49 left in the final period.
She then set-up the tying goal with 53 seconds to play, before netting the game winning goal herself 2:01 into the extra frame to complete the comeback and win the game 5-4.
It is the team’s third straight win at the 2024 Division 3A Women’s World Hockey Championship after beating Bulgaria 9-1 and Lithuania 3-1.
Ukraine currently sits in second place in the group, one point behind undefeated Romania, who Ukraine will play on March 15.
Only the top team in the group will win promotion.
