Ukraine's U-19 team advances to Euro 2024 playoffs with win over Italy

Ukraine's U-19 national team secured a spot in the 2024 European Championship playoffs by defeating Italy 3-2 in a decisive group stage match on July 21.
Gennadiy Synchuk opened the scoring in the 7th minute, capitalizing on an Italian defensive error to tip the ball over the goalkeeper. Tommaso Ebone equalized for Italy in the 34th minute, and at the start of the second half, Marco Romano put Italy ahead. However, just two minutes after Romano's goal, Danylo Krevsun leveled the score again.
The decisive moment of the match came 15 minutes before the end of regular time when Andriy Matkevych earned a penalty kick and drew a second yellow card for Italian defender Christian Corradi. Matviy Ponomarenko successfully converted the 11-meter penalty, securing a 3-2 victory for Ukraine.
With this win, Ukraine secured second place in their group and advanced to the Euro 2024 playoffs. Italy topped the group, while Norway finished third after beating Northern Ireland 2-0 in a parallel match.

In the semifinals of Euro 2024, Ukraine will face the winner of Group B on July 25. The Group B leader will be determined on July 22, with France currently in first place (6 points) set to play against Spain (4 points).
Reaching the Euro 2024 playoffs also guarantees Ukraine a spot in the U-20 World Cup in 2025.
It is worth noting that in their first two matches at Euro 2024 U-19, Ukraine drew with Northern Ireland (0-0) and Norway (0-0).
