Ukrainians donated over 7,000 liters of blood in 2023, according to data reported by Ukrainian blood donor recruitment system DonorUA.
A total of 14,000 blood donations were confirmed on the DonorUA platform that year, resulting in the collection of 7,000 liters—equivalent to potentially saving 50,000 lives. Moreover, 35,000 new donors registered on the platform during the year, bringing the total number of registered blood donors to 150,000.
Collaborating with the Health Ministry, DonorUA facilitated 35 blood deliveries to the front lines throughout the year, each capable of saving up to 1,500 wounded individuals. Beyond supporting the wounded, the donated blood also benefited people with cancer and Ukrainians in need of organ transplants.
"It is difficult to celebrate holidays under the current circumstances,” said Iryna Slavinska, co-founder of DonorUA and President of the NGO All-Ukrainian Blood Donors Association.
“However, we persist in our daily routines, attending work, taking our children to kindergartens and schools, and planning our day. Amidst it all, you consistently step up to donate blood every time you receive a notification from the DonorUA platform. You embody the reliable force that courses through the veins of our defenders. Your contribution provides a lifeline for children battling cancer, granting them another day and a fighting chance against this disease. You are an invaluable asset for patients undergoing organ transplants, offering them hope and stability. Your commitment is a source of strength and reliability for all Ukrainians. Thank you for answering the call of your heart to donate blood, without expecting gratitude, although it is deeply appreciated. Today, I express my gratitude to you. With over 150,000 of us, we undeniably represent a force of health that supports Ukraine."
