Invading Russian troops have stolen items of ancient Scythian gold that was stored in the Melitopol Museum of Local History, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office has said.
“In April 2022, soldiers and representatives of aggressor country’s occupation administration stole historical and cultural values from the Melitopol Museum of Local History,” a case lodged by prosecutors reads.
“According to preliminary data, among the stolen property was a collection of Scythian gold, which was discovered by archaeologists in the 1950s,” the case says.

The theft was determined to be a violation of the Laws and Customs of War (Chapter 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
