Mykhailo Romanchuk fails to qualify for 2024 Olympics final
Mykhailo Romanchuk, a silver and bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, failed to qualify for the men's 800-meter freestyle on July 29 at the 2024 Olympics.
Romanchuk finished last in his heat with a time of 7:49.75 minutes, which was not enough to qualify for the final, where eight athletes advanced.
Romanchuk holds the Olympic record in this discipline with a time of 7:41.28 minutes.
Romanchuk was the flag bearer for Ukraine at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics. There is a belief in Ukrainian society that those who receive this honor are "cursed" and fail to win medals at the Games.
