Rescued dog from Kherson thanks his rescuer with hug – photo of the day

Russian occupying forces blew up the Kakhovka dam overnight on June 6, which led to massive flooding of both Dnipro River banks in Kherson Oblast, with the rescue operation still ongoing on June 8.
A large dog rescued in Kherson featured in pictures of several Ukrainian photographers. The soaked dog hugged the leg of its rescuer with both front paws.
"All Russians are not worth a drop of the suffering of this Kherson dog who was rescued from the cold Dnipro water," photographer Serhiy Korovainyi, captioned the photo he posted on Facebook.
This moment was also captured by another photographer, Daniil Pavlov, who works for The Ukrainians.
Rescuers took the dog out of the flooded areas of Kherson on a rubber boat.
The water level had reached 5.5 meters as of mid-afternoon on June 7. The rate of water inflow has slowed down, but the level of rise may reach 7 meters. In total, 29 settlements are flooded, including 19 under Ukraine's control and 10 in the occupied area.
Over 1,560 people have been evacuated in Kherson as of June 7.
The water in the city rose by 1 more meter overnight and is expected to continue to rise throughout the day.
Almost 1,600 rescuers and police officers and about 300 units of special equipment are working in the region.
