Former Olympic medalist Ekaterina Guliyeva has been stripped of her silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics after being found guilty of a doping violation.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved a redistribution of medals following Guliyeva's disqualification.
Competing under her maiden name, Ekaterina Poistogova, the athlete originally finished third in the women's 800-meter final at the London Games. Her bronze medal was later upgraded to silver after Russian runner Maria Savinova, the original gold medalist, was stripped of her title for doping.
In 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Guliyeva had committed an anti-doping violation and imposed a four-year ban. The court also annulled all of her results between July 17, 2012, and Oct. 20, 2014, including her Olympic performance.
As a result of the IOC's decision, Kenya's Pamela Jelimo will receive the silver medal, while American runner Alysia Montaño will be awarded bronze. South Africa's Caster Semenya inherits the Olympic gold medal.
The ruling is the latest chapter in a years-long effort to revise Olympic results affected by widespread doping violations.
