WBO champion forecasts uphill battle for Lomachenko against Davis
Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko is unlikely to defeat Gervonta Davis in their upcoming bout, WBO super lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs) said in an interview with Title Sports Network on June 27.
“Lomachenko would expose damage to Gervonta,” Lopez said.
“Loma is hungry, don’t get me wrong. He stopped George
Kambosos in the 11th round, he did a lot of things to come back. You really
have got to keep putting the press on Gervonta. If not, eventually he’s used to
it. That’s why they call him ‘Tank.’ Because they put a tire in the middle, put
their feet in the middle, and have two guys banging it out.”
Gervonta is likely to hold the advantage in the end, he said, with the method of victory — whether by knockout or judges’ decision — yet to be determined.
