‘It shows what kind of person you are’ – ONUKA frontwoman on Ukrainian artists fleeing from war

The war has become a marker, leaving no room for controversy in one’s stance on Ukraine, the frontwoman of the popular group ONUKA, Nata Zhizhchenko, said in an interview with NV on July 23 while commenting on the Ukrainian male artists who went abroad during the full-scale war have not returned.
Zhizhchenko offered her thoughts on why some previously popular artists in Ukraine, such as singer Oleh Vynnyk, dancer Vlad Yama, and others, have made the decision not to return to the country.
"I don't know what other people decide for themselves. And I cannot answer for them. But I can definitely say that the war became a marker. It showed what kind of person you are. And if there was any room for controversy since 2014 (when Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea and invaded Donbas – ed.), everything changed after February 24 (2022, when Russia’s full-scale invasion began – ed.). Because it became either 'yes' or 'no.’ Everything is already clear. Absolutely. Even for those who couldn't understand in 2014," she said.
She also commented on hate speech on social media expressed towards Ukrainian celebrities who have left their home country.
“Hate in general is booming right now. It was always present in Ukrainian society. And now any event simply explodes with a wave of hate. I don't really follow these trends and don't go to social networks much, because I realized that I need to spend my time on something more valuable. But I understand that these are natural processes," she said.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
