Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska into her first Grand Slam semifinal at Australian Open – video
There’s a touch of magic to Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska’s game, as she’s gone from qualifier to one step away from her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open.
Yastremska defeated Czechia’s Linda Noskova in the quarterfinals, who had earlier knocked out Poland’s No. 1 seed Iga Świątek and Ukraine’s top-ranked Elina Svitolina, who was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Yastremska had a rather easy time of it, winning the first set 6-3 and the second 6-4.

Yastremska hit 19 winners and committed three double faults and 23 unforced errors. She also converted three of five break points in the one hour, 20 minute match.
The 23-year-old from Odesa will now face either Russia’s unseeded Russian Anna Kalinskaya or China’s 12th seeded Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals.
Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk nearly joined Yastremska in the semifinals, before dropping a tight quarterfinal to American Coco Gauff.
