Ukrposhta.Pharmacy pilot project now covering 7 oblasts

National postal operator Ukrposhta received licenses for retail and electronic retail trade of medicines, and has already begun accepting first orders and delivering them to customers, the company’s press service announced on Feb. 29.
“A few days after the pilot project launch, Ukrposhta.Pharmacy began receiving requests from other frontline regions in the country facing access issues to essential medicines,” said Igor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta.
“After testing the processes, we decided to scale up the pilot project, recognizing its importance for Ukrainians.”
The pilot project Ukrposhta.Pharmacy is supported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine. To purchase medicines, individuals can simply call the contact center and follow the prompts in the voice menu to reach a specialist. Currently, over-the-counter medicines (with ongoing efforts to expand the range) and those under the Affordable Medicines program are available for order.
Completed orders will be sent to customers at the nearest branch via Ukrposhta Express with free delivery. Upon completion, customers will receive an SMS notification for parcel pickup. They can inspect the parcel upon delivery to ensure proper completion. Delivery time is currently up to three days between regional centers (excluding the departure day), and orders can be stored at the branch for up to 7 calendar days.
Earlier in February 2024, Ukrposhta obtained licenses for retail and electronic retail trade in medicines. The pilot project Ukrposhta.Pharmacy was initiated in Donetsk Oblast and specific border areas of Sumy Oblast, addressing the acute issue of lacking stationary pharmacies and access to medicines.
Customers of the postal and logistics operator Meest Poshta can utilize the company’s services in all 310 Silpo stores across Ukraine. In 2023, Ukrposhta’s revenues increased by UAH 1.9 billion to UAH 11.9 billion ($312.3 million), surpassing the previous record of UAH 11.1 billion ($293 million) in 2021.
Another major carrier, Nova Poshta, reported further growth, opening nearly 5,000 new branches and self-service kiosks in 2023.
