Cargo trucks start to undergo processing on Polish border amid EU discussions
Cargo trucks are again being processed at the Uhryniv-Dolhobyczów checkpoint on the border with Poland, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service reported on Telegram on Dec. 4.
The trucks are following the general queue order as they pass through the checkpoint, the service said.
"As of the morning of Dec. 4, border guards at the Uhryniv checkpoint on the exit from Ukraine processed 30 heavy-duty vehicles with a total permitted weight of over 7.5 tons," the statement said.
A meeting of the EU Transport Council is scheduled for Dec. 4 in Brussels. The Polish side has proposed discussing the consequences of the agreement between Ukraine and the EU that came into force on July 1, 2022.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki earlier said that the country wants to propose to reinstate permits for freight shipments coming from Ukraine at the European Union level.
Polish protesters are demanding the return of the permit system for Ukrainian freight carriers. Amid the full-scale war, the EU suspended the permits for entry into the EU at least until June 30, 2024, to liberalize freight transport.
Ukraine’s Deputy Infrastructure Minister Serhiy Derkach said that the issue of a "cargo visa-free regime" is fundamental for Ukraine.
