According to Peskov, “no agreements have been reached” at this stage.
Commenting on the possibility of continuing contacts involving U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Peskov said such communications would continue.
At the same time, he added that Moscow understands the U.S. administration is currently focused on other priorities.
“It is clear that they are busy with other matters right now, but at some point they will have more time, and we expect further work to continue,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Ukraine-Russia talks: Latest developments
On May 7, the Kremlin said it considered trilateral talks involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia inappropriate unless Ukraine withdrew its forces from parts of the Donbas under Kyiv’s control. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly said Ukraine would never agree to such a condition.
On June 4, Zelenskyy published an open letter to Vladimir Putin, calling for an end to the war “in a format between you and us” and proposing a face-to-face meeting. The Ukrainian leader also said he was prepared to freeze the front line. Putin rejected the proposal.
On June 17, Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that European Council President Antonio Costa had established contacts with Kremlin representatives in an effort to involve Putin in discussions on possible ways to end the war in Ukraine.
According to the report, Costa’s chief adviser held two phone conversations with a senior Russian official close to Putin.
On June 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine “at any time” and continue them from the point at which they had previously been suspended.
